What Is a Virtual Recruiter and How to Become One

What Do Virtual Recruiters Do?

Virtual Recruiters have the same responsibilities and goals as a traditional recruiter; your main objective is to help your employer clients fill vacancies with talented job seekers. The primary difference between the positions is Virtual Recruiters typically work from home instead of in the office. In this role, you are the liaison between job seeker and potential employer, helping companies to narrow the field of candidates to those most qualified and helping individuals find the right fit for them. Because you are not in the office, you must give your clients regular updates on the status of your search through phone calls, emails, and online portals. Recruiting jobs are frequently remote or virtual positions.

How to Get a Virtual Recruiter Job?

There are no formal education requirements to become a Virtual Recruiter, though most have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Some employers prefer candidates who have an associate or a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, marketing, or a related field. Many Virtual Recruiter start their careers in a human resources or customer service position to learn how to communicate well with a variety of people. Having some experience in recruiting is a plus, though some firms are willing to train motivated candidates. Most virtual recruiters work for a recruiting firm, but you can choose to become an independent contractor and find clients on your own.

Is Virtual Recruiter a Legitimate Work From Home Job?

Many Virtual Recruiter jobs that allow you to work from home or another remote location with internet access are legitimate work from home jobs. They are often posted by recruiting firms looking for new employees who are motivated and willing to learn. Legitimate positions do not ask you to pay for leads or charge you for setting up job software. As with any pursuit, do your homework; only apply to jobs with established companies who have an excellent online presence and reputation, and stay away from job postings that ask for money as part of getting employment.

Are There Virtual Recruiter Part Time Jobs?

While many Virtual Recruiter jobs are full-time positions, there are part-time opportunities available for those who want a smaller time commitment and more flexibility in their schedule. Some employers hire part-time Virtual Recruiters as a training period before allowing the new staff member to take on a full client load or to cover for an experienced Virtual Recruiter who may want to scale back on hours due to personal time constraints. Employers are often willing to allow staff to go part-time as long as they are still dedicated to their clients and meet their deadlines. Recruiters usually receive a small base salary, but primarily rely upon the commission they receive from placing applicants. This makes recruiting one of those careers where you get what you put in. Competitive recruiters often work 60 or more hours a week, but most find the career very rewarding.
