Believe it or not, most of the time, posting music 🎵 on Instagram is actually illegal. However, there are a few circumstances under which this is not the case.

👍 Using 1-3 seconds

While some experts say that using up to 30 seconds of a copyrighted song is safe, I always recommend that my clients use no more than three.

👍 Finding royalty-free music

Music that is royalty-free has already been legally licensed to you for certain uses. Great websites for finding royalty-free music include Artlist, Audiojungle, and Epidemic. However, keep in mind that these websites do require payment 💳 either per download or for a monthly to a yearly subscription. Furthermore, be sure to read the permissible uses of each song before using it on your Instagram account. Some royalty-free music is only licensed for specific uses, so it’s important to read the fine print before purchasing.

👍 Recording 🎙️ your own

Even if your musical talent is limited to, say, the piano 🎹, have some fun, and take creative license over the background music in your video. Furthermore, recording and posting cover songs are legal as well. However, if you’re planning on selling your covers for a profit 💰, you may require further action to protect yourself.

👍 Getting permission

Chances are, local bands and musicians will be happy to help you out, especially when you provide them with your follower count. Free exposure for them and free music for you means everyone wins – just be sure to get their approval in writing! That being said, if you’re looking to use hit songs your followers will recognize, you’ll have to get permission another way (unless, of course, you know Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran personally). Luckily, fyrfly.com has all of the top music you could possibly want. However, note that access to their site requires a yearly subscription, and downloading most of the songs your followers will recognize requires an additional fee 💲. Finally, be sure to keep on file the downloadable license 📝 you receive from FyrFly Song Freedom or any other song licensing website. This way, if you are hit with a false copyright flag for posting music on Instagram, you can provide the platform with proof of licensure to ensure your video stays up.

What does purple circle with heart on Instagram story mean?

Instagram exclusive stories Instagram exclusive stories: What to expect Exclusive stories for select members will be marked with a purple heart icon. This is similar to how Intagram stories for 'Close Friends' are currently labelled with a green star icon and ring around the display picture.

Instagram is working on a feature that will allow creators on the platform to offer exclusive stories to their followers. Currently in the testing phase, this new Instagram feature could be similar to Twitter's 'Super Follows' feature. Twitter had recently launched a new functionality called 'Super Follows', which allows accountholders with a certain following to share exclusive content with their followers, similar to YouTube's membership programme. Now Instagram is working on a similar concept. The popular photo sharing app is currently testing this new feature and will roll it out if everything goes smoothly. This won't be the first feature Instagram has emulated from the competition. IKt The platform had launched Reels in August 2020 that allows creators to share short videos, similar to TikTok. Exclusive stories for select members will be marked with a purple heart icon. This is similar to how Intagram stories for 'Close Friends' are currently labelled with a green star icon and ring around the display picture. To maintain exclusivity of exclusive stories, Instagram may prevent users from taking screenshots of such content so that they cannot be shared with non-subscribers without the creator's consent. The platform may also allow creators to save their exclusive stories to a 'Highlight', just like other stories right now.
