Want to explore differences between Job & Freelancing? Are you also willing to know which is better from job vs. freelancing?

In this article, we will explore the key differences between a 9-to-5 job and full-time freelancing. I have experience in both domains and will try my best to give you honest and unbiased insights on both terms. So, you can choose the best option for you and do not regret it later. We will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of freelancing and a full-time job. Then we will discuss common myths and conclude. I will try to share the brightest and darkest sides of both the spectrum to make better decisions. So, let's start discussing which one is better for freelancing and a full-time job.

9-To-5 Job

Job is one of the preferable forms to make money, most of our relatives and friends do 9 to 5 jobs. But getting an ideal job is a very challenging task, especially in the government sector. However, in the private sector, you can get an ideal job, but still, there is lots of competition you need to face. There might be 60-100 applicants for average-paying job profiles in general. And therefore, highly experienced and talented people struggle to get a job. Along with this, many factors affect your profile for the job position. It can be your location, experience, communication skills, salary expectation, and more. Mostly, candidates get rejected due to salary expectations; there is no shortage of candidates ready to work for even less pay. It can take even a month to get job placement in any company as there can be multiple stages that a candidate needs to pass.

Freelancing

Freelancing is the form of working with companies where you get paid based on your work. The company is liable to pay you when you complete the desired task in the desired format. It can be anything from writing blogs, PR, running Facebook ads, managing social profiles, and building a website. Most companies prefer to hire candidates as employees, but now many businesses have also started leveraging this model. However, freelancing is still in the growing stage in India, and it can take some time to give you decent results. When you have some pre-made samples and experience, in that case, you will be more likely to get projects to work on. If you do not have much time and already work somewhere, you can learn how to make extra money from home. So, you can increase your earnings without leaving your job. So, if you are starting as a freelancer, then it is good to take it as a side hustle or build a network to get some help. Summary: Whether you wish to do a full-time 9 to 5 job or freelancing, both are going to take some precious time to give you the ideal result. There is no shortcut to start making passive money in a few days or a month.

#1. Stable Salary

When you decide to do a 9 to 5 job, you get a fixed salary, which is an excellent way to get a stable income. Also, it helps you to manage household needs and decide monthly expenses. Your salary gets credited on the particular date of any month.

#2. Team To Work

If you do not like working alone, doing a full-time job can be the ideal choice. Because here, you get the dedicated team to brainstorm your skills and have some fun activities. Working with a team can also remove the work pressure and feel better. When you do not feel okay, your team can help you complete your project or task in the given time frame.

#3. Career Growth

With a full-time job, you can get good growth as your salary keeps increasing by 5%-10% yearly. You keep learning from other people's experiences that help you become a mature and wise person. Also, you can get a promotion and become a manager or high-rank professional, but this option is not available in freelancing. So, what's available in freelancing as a promotion? We will discuss it later.

The Disadvantage Of Full-Time Job

#1. The Job Can Affect Personal And Social Life.

Many 9 to 5 job professionals agree to sacrifice their social and personal lives. They do not get proper time with their family, kids, and friends. Even they miss other activities like playing cricket and other games with friends.

#2. Have Limitation In Choosing Task

When you work as an employee, you need to obey your senior's and employers' guidelines. You complete those tasks that they have assigned to you. You do not get many choice to choose whey you do a regular job.

#3. It Changes The Routine.

When you join a company and start working there as a full-time employee. Then it changes everything, and you need to reschedule your work routine. It changes everything from waking up to going to bed at night. On the other hand, freelancing allows you to work in your hours. We have discussed the advantages and disadvantages of full-time employment or 9 to 5 jobs. Let's also discuss the same for freelancing to compare both better.

#1. Work From Anywhere

As a freelancer, you do not need to come to a particular place and start working. If you have your laptop and internet connection, you can work anywhere, even while moving. You do not need to wear formal clothes to complete the task that is assigned to you. You can join freelance marketplaces like Fiverr, Upwork & LinkedIn and find freelance clients. If you want to learn more about Fiverr and how to make money from Fiverr, check out my article. There you can get in-depth information on the same with pro tips.

#2. No Fixed Working Hours.

It is lucrative about freelancing, as you are not bound to work for specific hours. Mostly you get paid based on projects and tasks assigned to you. Therefore, it's up to you to finish and deliver the task within the time limit.

#3. Go On Vacation

It attracts me to freelancing, as you do not need to apply to go on vacation here. Also, you are not committed to working with the client you work with for the whole day. Even if you are on the go, you can take small projects or tasks to complete and make a standard revenue. In short, when you work as a freelancer, you can easily plan your vacation and move to your picnic.

#4. Good Income Stream

Freelancing can help you make attractive money which is more than a standard job. Also, you do not need to wait for a month to receive your payment. You work based on the project and get paid as per your predefined terms. Most freelancers get 100% or 50% advance and rest after the project.

Disadvantages Of Freelancing

#1. No Guarantee Of Generating Stable Income

If you wish to work as a freelancer to make money online, you must make sure that freelancing does not guarantee you a stable income. Your monthly income can vary based on the number of projects you get.

#2. No Benefit Other Than Charges You Charge

When you work in any company there, you might get low pay, but you also get excellent benefits. Most of the companies provide medical and social insurance. Some companies also offer paid leave, maternity, and paternity leave; along with this, you can even get some half days. Nowadays, many companies have free meals, beverages, traveling, and other benefits for employees. And when you accumulate all these benefits with your given salary, it can make you feel satisfied with the job. However, when you work as a freelancer, you do not get any other benefits that an employee gets. In most cases, you also do not get the Diwali bonus that an employee gets. Here you have only one source of income and its revenue from projects you work on.

#3. Fake Clients

Many fake clients and freelance websites are there where freelancers deliver the finished work and do not get any payment. It's one of the biggest threats that can harm your freelancing business. Hence, you can either start taking 50% or 100% of your charges in advance or can do an in-depth check about the company's profile.

#4. Work Alone

As a freelancer, you need to work alone and handle all work pressure alone. Therefore, sometimes it can affect your mental health, and you suffer a lot. However, you should start sitting with family members and friends when you face such an issue. And it's also good to take a break from work until you recover and go back to work.

Job Vs. Freelancing: Which One Is Better From Freelancing And Job?

Whether you prefer a job or freelancing, both have advantages and disadvantages. And if we talk about which one is better than its answer depends upon you. Because if you need the freedom to work from anywhere at any time, freelancing can be an ideal choice. Whereas, if you prefer job security, you should move with a full-time job. Many people do not feel comfortable working as an employee in a company. If you are one of those, you can consider freelancing. However, freelancing is not a cup of tea for every person; it requires hard work and confidence to pitch and attract clients. If you do not feel comfortable doing that, 9 to 5 jobs can be suitable.

Does a Job Do Not Pay Well?

Jobs are an excellent option to make money if you do not want to enter freelancing. But many jobs are worthless; I have seen many job postings that offer Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 for a 1-2 year experienced professional and did not offer other benefits. Freelancing is the future to make money online; it opens a window to work with international companies. However, you must not underrate the local clients if you are entering this field. Because local clients can become your high-paying clients and offer you long-lasting work.

Is Freelancing Risky?

You tell which one is risky, keeping all money in one bank account or three different accounts. Freelancing is quite risky, just like your ordinary job, as you keep getting stable pay. However, if a company faces challenges like COVID, they can make significant cuts in your salary. But when you work freelance, you can diversify your risk by working with multiple clients and getting advanced.
