Read More »By now, even if you don't have kids in the "Baby Shark" fan demographic, you've likely caught a hint of it out in the world, and can recognize the tune and the "doo doo doo doo doodoos" that follow it. After all, the original "Baby Shark" video has been viewed more than 2.2 billion times on YouTube, which has led to a spot on the Billboard Top 100, celebrity renditions, parodies, meme challenges, and co-workers who sing it out loud in the office even though the main reason you come to work is to get away from the toddler who sings it at home all the time. (Ahem.) And, as soon as you hear it, it's over — it'll be stuck in your head forever. But, if you've somehow managed to escape all that — or you've heard your toddler sing it on a loop and want to know what the heck she's talking about — it's time to catch up with the phenomenon, because it isn't going away.

Read More »As for who wrote the "Baby Shark" song, Pinkfong says that the tune is loosely based on lots of traditional songs for kids, including the French children’s song “Bébé Requin" and "Kleiner Hai" from Germany. (There's also an American children's musician, Johnny Only, who is suing Pinkfong for copyright infringement, saying the version of the song that went viral for them is one that he came up with first.) The opening chords — the part that sounds like the Jaws theme — is actually picked up from Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9. This content is imported from youTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. The company is not content to rest on the popularity of "Baby Shark." In addition to new videos, which are continuously uploaded to their YouTube channel, the company has leapt off the screen and launched a line of dolls, books, t-shirts, and even phone accessories. But the biggest news is that it's been announced that Pinkfong will launch a new TV series this year. Official details are scarce, but Bloomberg got the scoop: "Seoul-based SmartStudy Co.'s Pinkfong is planning to release short videos via Netflix Inc., a cartoon series and a musical in North America this year, one of the company’s founders said in an interview this week. The startup, which has recently signed various merchandising deals, may also develop games that work with Amazon.com Inc.’s Alexa and Alphabet Inc.’s Google Home voice assistants." So, get ready: Pinkfong will soon be available in every inch of your house. There's no use fighting it, so you might as well learn the moves.
