What is 4Ws 1H technique?

Now, if you're an entrepreneur on a mission to build a profitable business with a strong long-term vision, you need to figure out your 4Ws (Who, What, When, Where), 1H (How) and 1Y (Why), but just so you know, the first thing that you need to know as a business owner is your WHY, and everything else will just follow.

“He who has a WHY can endure any HOW.” -- Frederick Nietzsche

Most of you must be well aware of the famous tried-and-true 5W 1H (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How) framework which has maintained its status as the master key to analyse or create any marketing strategy under the sun since times immemorial. However, when you dig deeper into this brilliant framework you will realise that there isn't really a 5W 1H, but a 4W 1H 1Y which marks the beginning of every booming entity in the world. P.S. If you read between the numbers, you can probably find your WHY. Now stop and ask yourself, why is the 'Why' so important? Why are you doing this? Let's find out why the 'WHY' is so crucial for you to thrive.

The wisdom of an adult, emotion of a child

Do you ever notice how one of the most common questions of a child is 'Why'? Well, entrepreneurship is not a child's play. True. It requires immense knowledge and a lot of expertise to drive business towards success. But are intelligence, knowledge, maturity and wisdom enough to drive you in your business? Maybe, but you can only get so far on IQ alone. For you to be persistent in working towards your mission, you need to know what your mission is. Apart from money and fame, what is that one feeling, one emotion which makes you want to wake up in the morning and do better than the day before? Listen to that WHY. According to a study, 58% of companies with a clearly articulated purpose achieved growth of 10%+ over the past three years. 85% of companies with clearly articulated purpose showed some growth overall, while 42% of companies without it showed negative growth. Your WHY might not be your passion, and vice versa. And that's okay.

You love playing cricket. You are the best batsman/bowler on your college cricket team. Your friends think and advice you to become a Cricket coach because your passion lies there. Chances are that you might be playing cricket because it relaxes you and you enjoy it, but does that necessarily mean you want to make a business out of this? No. And that's okay. The emotion behind your purpose needn't be your passion, but once you find that WHY, it has to be passionate enough to always keep you on your toes. 73% of purpose-oriented members are satisfied in their jobs, against 64% of the non-purpose oriented.

Does it make you happy?

Your purpose is to make your business reach a level that it can run on its own. You are creating a business model which is profitable and scalable. But are you truly happy? When you think about the things you want to achieve on this journey of entrepreneurship, what is it that brings happy tears to your eyes? That, right there, is your WHY. Most of the time, entrepreneurs like you identify their WHY, but in the day to day hassle of running a business, you forget that WHY and lose yourself in firefighting and tackling problems. You forget how much power that WHY holds. Your purpose comes with the power to enable you to align all your beliefs with every choice and action that you take and attain true fulfilment. Yes, it's difficult to stay connected with your all-encompassing WHY, but remember, this is the only thing which will remind you who you are every day and manoeuvre you towards your vision. If you now know the power of WHY, and feel that you need help in identifying it, you can comment below and I will be happy to help you find the purpose of your business.
