Tariq's sixty-plus seconds of gushing over corn was remixed into a song by music group The Gregory Brothers, which has also gone viral. (Streaming royalties for the song are being split between the Gregory Brothers and Tariq and his family, noted the musicians in the song's YouTube description. We love to see it.) Tariq's unbearably adorable and wholesome love of corn has propelled him into viral fame — he's now made TikToks with YouTuber Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson and Chipotle, and last Saturday was crowned the official corn-bassador of South Dakota. Governor Kristi Noem even declared September 3, 2022 “Official Corn-bassador Tariq Day.” "Whereas, South Dakota is one of the top corn producers in the nation, providing nourishment across the globe but especially to Tariq, a 7-year-old boy who recently discovered that corn was real," reads Gov. Noem's Executive Proclamation, directly quoting Tariq's words in the TikTok. "Whereas, it is fitting and proper as Governor to make special note of this outstanding young man." According to NPR, Tariq and his family traveled all the way from New York to South Dakota for the honorary ceremony and celebration at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. "As part of naming Tariq a South Dakota Corn-bassador, we wanted Tariq and his family to experience a combination of South Dakota's two largest industries, tourism and agriculture," Katlyn Svendsen, a rep from the South Dakota Department of Tourism told the outlet.
