What is the universe gift on TikTok?

A universe is $500, or £400-ish, so will take a lot of coins, and after TikTok takes their commission it seems the creator will receive less than half that, so $250 or £200 after the conversion and commission. Some of the other gifts include a lion, a rose and a paper crane.

Did you know that you can send gifts on TikTok?

That’s right, as well as watching weird dances and the latest trends, many people watch their favourite creators on lives, and splash the cash to send them gifts.

If you’re reevaluating your career choice right now, then you’re not alone.

One of the most wanted gifts on TikTok is the universe gift.

How much is a universe gift on TikTok worth?

If you really want to show a creator that you’re a hardcore fan, send them a universe gift.

TikTok uses virtual gifts and diamonds for in-app revenue.

In order for a creator to be able to receive gifts from fans, they need to have at least 1,000 followers and go live. These “gifts” include everything from virtual pandas, lions and drama queens (!?) and each one is worth a different amount of money. Creators then trade in these gifts for virtual diamonds, which they then swap for actual money via PayPal or another secure option.

For fans wanting to gift something, they need to purchase coins first.

Next, they choose a symbol, for example a panda, then click the pink gift button that appears while watching a TikTok Live video. You have to be 18 and over to send TikTok gifts. It’s been reported that diamonds are worth half the value of coins, and TikTok takes a whopping 50% commission (ouch!). For example, a Drama Queen costs 5,000 coins, which turns into multiple diamonds worth 0.5 a cent each.

The lowest amount of coins you can buy is 40 for 49p.

The maximum is 16,500 coins, which will set you back £229.

A universe is $500, or £400-ish, so will take a lot of coins, and after TikTok takes their commission it seems the creator will receive less than half that, so $250 or £200 after the conversion and commission.

YouTube Shorts takes on TikTok with 45% ad-revenue share for creators

YouTube will pay creators 45% of the ad dollars from Shorts, the report says. YouTube generally pays 55% of revenue from ads. While TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook all have Creator Funds, none share ad revenue on an ongoing basis. TikTok’s $200 million U.S. Creators Fund is set to rise to $1 billion over the next three years and $2 billion internationally. That sounds like a lot of money, but YouTube paid creators over $30 billion in ad revenue over the last three years.

THE TAKEAWAY

Making money on YouTube vs TikTok is only part of the equation. For musicians, discovery matters, and by some measures, YouTube Shorts has already become as popular as TikTok. 75% of YouTube’s 2 billion users already watch Shorts, and musicians with long-form videos report a bump in engagement for all their YouTube content after adding Shorts. Rather than building a short-form video audience from scratch on TikTok, it would seem a smarter move to expand your audience for short and long-form videos on YouTube.
