You can access Instant Article settings and tools for your Facebook Page using publishing tools or Creator Studio. These settings and tools allow you to manage all aspects of your Instant Articles, including setup and configuration, article insights and your production library. Once you're familiar with your tools, you can manage who has access to them by assigning Page roles. Note: You can also access your Page, use publishing tools and assign roles using Business Manager. Learn more about Business Manager.

Access your settings and tools using publishing tools

Go to your Page from your personal Facebook account. At the top of your Page, click Publishing tools.

Access your settings and tools using Creator Studio

Initially, you'll just have access to the tools that will help you set up Instant Articles. Once you complete the setup process, you'll receive access to more settings. Follow our quickstart guide to complete the setup process.

Configuring Instant Articles

In the left-hand column of Instant Articles, select Configuration under the Instant Articles header. Under Configuration, you'll be able to submit for review, design your articles under Styles, input a URL to connect your site, set up third-party analytics tools, sign up for email notifications, customise your feedback settings, connect an RSS feed and monetise articles through Facebook ads.

Using Creator Studio

Open Creator Studio and go to the Monetisation tab, then start the setup process to be able to gain access to the initial tools for configuring Instant Articles. You will be able to claim a domain, design article styles, submit articles for review and set up monetisation using Facebook ads in the setup process. Once you've completed the setup process, you can configure the settings for any of your Pages under the Settings tab, which you'll find in Content library > Instant Articles.

Production and development articles

To see individual articles in your feed in Publishing tools, click Production or Development articles in the left-hand column. You'll see the list of articles that you've uploaded and can access the markup for each article and manage your articles further from there. View how many people have opened specific Instant Articles by clicking on Insights in the right-hand column. To see individual articles in Creator Studio, go to the Content library tab and click on the Instant Articles section in the left-hand column. You'll see the list of articles you've uploaded in the respective Production articles and Development articles tabs and can access the markup for each article and manage your articles further from there.

Connect your site

To create Instant Articles, you must register your site's URL with Facebook. Doing so will verify that you own your URL and ensure that no one else can claim it. To register one or more URLs for your Page in Publishing tools, click Configuration under the Instant Articles header and scroll down to Register your URL. You'll need to input the tag specified on that page in the head tag of your website's HTML and then select the URL(s) you'd like to register. You will be prompted to claim at least one domain URL in the Creator Studio setup for Instant Articles. To register more URLs for your Page in Creator Studio, go to Content library > Instant Articles and click on the settings for the Page that you'd like to add more domains to. Types of URLs You have three choices to determine which stories will be made available for publication as Instant Articles: via a root domain, via a subdomain or via a specific path within a domain. This page summarises the factors to consider before choosing which version of your URL is best to register with Instant Articles.

No matter which version you select, you will always retain control over the specific articles that will appear as Instant Articles. Facebook will NOT automatically ingest all articles with the designated domain or subdomain. Choosing a URL at this stage simply defines which articles will ultimately be eligible to become Instant Articles. At a later point, you can choose which to publish as Instant Articles.

1. Root domain

If you register a root domain, you can publish Instant Articles using any of its subdomains or on any path that originates from it. Registering domain.com includes the root domain.com , subdomains with prefixes such as brand.domain.com , as well as paths delineated by forward slashes, such as domain.com/path or brand.domain.com/path . Please note that www.domain.com is considered a subdomain and not the root domain. Root URLs that include trailing slashes are treated in the same way as ones that don't include trailing slashes. So, domain.com is considered to be equivalent to domain.com/ . This rule does not apply to subdomains and paths. Domain names are NOT case sensitive, but paths are. For example, domain.com is the same as DOMAIN.com . However, domain.com/path is different from domain.com/PATH .

2. Subdomain

If you register a subdomain, you can only publish Instant Articles via any path or subpath that originates from it. You cannot publish from the root domain. If you register www.domain.com , you can publish using www.domain.com and www.domain.com/path or any descendants.

The same goes for brand.domain.com.

But if you register www.domain.com or brand.domain.com , you cannot publish with domain.com as your root URL.

Subdomain names are case sensitive.

3. Paths within a domain

If you register a specific path, you can publish Instant Articles via any subpaths that originate from the path. If you register domain.com/path , you can publish using domain.com/path and domain.com/path/any_subpath or any descendants.

You cannot publish using domain.com , www.domain.com or brand.domain.com .

Paths are case sensitive.

Manage your articles library

You must pass article review before you can publish articles manually.

To manage your articles library in Publishing tools, select Production articles under the Instant Articles header in the menu on the left of the screen. Every story published as an Instant Article is automatically added to the library of articles found on this Page. You can change the publication status of articles by ticking each one that you want to modify and selecting a different status from the Actions drop-down box. Use the Actions drop-down to revise the status of an Instant Article from published to unpublished (or vice versa). To manage your articles in Creator Studio, select Instant Articles in the menu on the left of the screen. Every story published as an Instant Article is automatically added to the library of articles found in the Production articles tab. You can change the publication status of articles by ticking each one that you want to modify and selecting the Delete, Publish or Edit options.

"Unpublished" stories are not visible to the public, but they are stored as drafts. If a published story is changed to unpublished status, the story is hidden from public view but the markup content and insights are preserved.

Create an article manually

Instant Articles is optimised for automated publication via the Graph API or an RSS feed from a publisher's content management system. However, publishers can also create Instant Articles manually, to further leverage the format's rich-display capabilities. To create a new Instant Article manually, click "Create" and type or paste the full HTML markup for your article in the editor. Review the Instant Articles format reference for detailed guidance on Instant Articles markup conventions. If the Instant Articles system detects any errors in the article HTML, the errors are displayed at the top of the editor screen, along with hints on how to correct them. When you finish editing your article, select Save to store the article as an unpublished draft. To publish the article, tick the box to the left of the article in your article list, then select "Publish" from the "Actions" drop-down.

Update an article manually

< />

To manually update or edit an existing article, click thebutton in the "Edit" column for the article in the list. This opens the editor and loads the current article markup. After saving any updates to the markup, the article automatically returns to unpublished draft mode as a precaution. To publish the new version of the article, tick the box to the left of the article in the articles list, then select Publish. The manually edited version of your article will be automatically overwritten if the Instant Articles system receives an update to the same article (with the same URL) if it includes a modified date that is more recent than the manually edited version.

Remove an article

If you no longer want readers to see an article, you can either unpublish the article or delete it altogether. If you unpublish the article, it returns to a draft state and remains in your list of articles, even though readers cannot see it. To unpublish an article, tick the box to the left of the article, then select Unpublish. To permanently delete an article, its markup content and its insights, select "Delete" from the drop-down menu. If you delete an article, ensure that you're no longer distributing the article on your regular content management system through the Graph API or from your RSS feed. Otherwise, the unwanted article will return to your list of Instant Articles.

Assign Page roles

To assign roles and build your Instant Articles team, access "Page roles" in the "Settings" section of your Facebook Page. This governs who has access to your Page(s) and which administrative and publishing permissions each person has. Note: You can also use Business Manager to assign roles.

1. Your Page

2. Settings

At the top of your Page, click "Settings".

3. Page roles

Click "Page roles" on the left-hand side of the screen. Here, you can assign roles to your team. Use the table below to decide what roles to give.
