Every time you hear us, or most agencies, talk about search, we are generally referring to Google. People often ask why this is, so we thought we would write a blog to explain why Google is the search engine of choice for both customers and agencies. Firstly, let’s look at why users use Google… I have tried to boil this article down into simple sections, as this topic is a pretty chunky one, to say the least!

1. Speed

Google is generally quicker than the other search engines at bringing back results. It is able to deliver millions of results in 0.19 of a second. This is down to their technical infrastructure, which is much better than the other engines. Google once had a fire at one of their server warehouses and although it destroyed everything hardware-wise, their service wasn’t impacted at all. Nice.

2. Choice

Google has a lot more sites in its index. It picks up new sites faster than any other engine, so you are able to search the latest news, latest sites and just loads more sites in general. Technically, you should have a better result if you have more to choose from.

3. Relevancy

Google’s algorithm is much more sophisticated than the other engines. They should be better at determining which sites are the most relevant and which ones aren’t – especially with continous updates to their algorithm to keep up with ever-evolving digital behaviours. Google have their fingers in many data pies, which the other engines don’t. Subsequently, with more data they can make more informed decisions, somewhat scary when you hear of them being able to know what you are going to type before you do!

4. Branding

You can’t overlook this aspect of Google. They are everywhere! They didn’t do a lot of advertising previously, and they don’t really advertise their search offering currently however they do advertise a lot of their other services which are all “Google” based… so naturally, you hear the name a lot. That said, I am not sure about their company motto “Don’t be evil”, I will discuss this in another post/rant.

And why do agencies like Google?

5. Market share

Well, 86% of the UK population use Google so it certainly makes sense to put your efforts into the dominant company as you are likely to get a better return for your investment of time.

6. Platform and tools

When looking at the advertising section of these engines (Google Ads/Microsoft Advertising (previously Bing Ads)) there is no comparison. Google is years ahead. You can set something up in minutes on Google, and hours/days for the other platforms. Google also provides a good toolset for you to use, which includes Analytics and WebMaster Tools to name a few. They obviously don’t tell you specifics, and leave us to work out how to adapt things accordingly!

7. Support

Well, for us, we’re a Google Premier Partner which means we have access to a whole host of benefits and resources to help our clients and partners. Google’s customer support is out of this world, and who doesn’t like a good experience with customer service?

Does Google have its own internet?

Google Fiber is Google's fiber optic-based broadband internet service, which debuted in 2010.

Google Fiber is a broadband internet service that Google is currently deploying in 18 cities across the US. The service is notable because of its high speed, running up to 1000 Mbps, with a friendly month-to-month, all-inclusive pricing scheme. Despite the initial promise of the network, Google has paused expansion of Fiber beyond its current 18 cities, and notably pulled Fiber out of several cities where it attempted to deploy the service.

Google Fiber is Google's fiber optic-based broadband internet service, which debuted in 2010. It's built to deliver high-speed connectivity to businesses and individuals in select cities. At least, that was the goal. While it once appeared that Google intended to roll out Google Fiber across the entire US, the company "paused" most of its expansion plans, adding only one new city in the last four years — they announced in July 2020 that Fiber would be coming to West Des Moines, IA, but it won't be ready for several years.

Currently, Google Fiber services are available in 18 locations across the country.
